![](Photos/image003.jpg)
As viewed in Sutterland script
George's signature is found on a 1751 petition. In its entirety, it reads:
HEREFRORD TOWNSHIP (1751)
To the Worshipful the Justices of the Peace for the county of Philadelphia, in open Quarter Sessions met a Philadelphia the third day of June Anno Domini 1751.
The petition of divers inhabitants of the said county humbly sheweth:
That your petitioners live on a large tract of land about six miles on length between the line the county calls Bucks from the county of Philadelphia and the Township of Colebrook Dale in the county last mentioned and in breadth between two and three miles from the upper line of Hannover Township to the hills running towards Oley, which tract is not within boundaries of any township also the said County of Philadelphia, but which your petitioners and others inhabiting the same tract are under very great hardship with respect to the maintenance of the public highways, and through the want of a Constable and other officers.
You petitioners, therefore, humbly entreat your Worships would order the said tract of land to be survey'd and laid out into a township, if there be found occasion for it, and we humbly conceive there will be. And your petitioners shall ever pray ????
Signatures:
Georg Kuhm, Greroriry? Meiken (or Meiser), Bennedick Strohm, Jacob Lorentz, Samual Bauer, Michel (MB) Bauer, Abraham (AB) Bauer, Conradt Bobs?, David Meschtel, Abraham Bächtel, Kunraht Bab, Johan? Nikol Fink, Frans Lazar, Danial Stauver (or Clauver?), Valentin (-o-) Grismer, Jacob (X) Scholl, Jacob Fisher, George Steinmann, Melchior Wiegner.
Signature on the back of the petition:
Jacob Buchwalter, Frans Beli, Jacob Sta?ffer, Görg Bächttel, Christoffel Moll, Peter Moll, Theodore Schneider, Johannes Buchwalter, Peter Bischoff.
It should be noted that the signature of George Bechtel, though illustrated in the figures above contained 2 t's, Abraham Bachtel signed his name with one. As a result of the G in Gorg, a more English type script, the first "t" may have actually been a part of the "h", as in many English documents "fh" was the same as "h".
